Vineyards Vienna - a place of tradition
Vineyards in Vienna is an inseparable part of the culture and is just as much a must-see hotspot as the Graben or the Rathaus. We'll tell you where you can find "real" Heurige, where tradition is preserved and quality is important - places away from mass tourism, where you can get to know the original Viennese culture. We will show you hidden places and insider knowledge so that you can really enjoy the Heurigen-feeling in Vienna.
What do you absolutely need to know in advance? The difference between a Heuriger and a Buschenschank! Hot dishes are also served in the Heurigen, although only cold dishes may be served in the Buschenschank. The word Heurigen is also used to describe both the wine from the last harvest and the economy.
What you can expect apart from exquisite wine is good, down-to-earth cuisine. This is how you can experience the original Vienna. But be careful with the opening times: Heurige and Buschenschanken are only open seasonally.
Feuerwehr Wagner – enjoyment with a view
Buschenschank am Nussberg | Friday from 4 p.m. | Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 12 p.m.
Enjoy regional delicacies and a good glass of wine from Vienna with a view over Vienna - this is possible at the Buschenschank – called Feuerwehr Wagner. For more than 330 years, the Wagner family has been running the winery with a lot of dedication and love. The Heurige received its name from Josef Wagner, who was a captain in the volunteer fire brigade in Heiligenstadt around 1900 - the name has survived for more than a hundred years to this day.
Our insider tip is the grape variety Österreich Weiß - a wine that has almost been forgotten and is only available in Vienna. Here you can enjoy the noble drop, which is typically Austrian with a lot of acidity.
Buschenschank Jutta Ambrositsch – a real Viennese original
Langeckergasse 5A in Döbling | open irregular
Anyone looking for a truly traditional Buschenschank in Vienna is in the best of hands with Jutta Ambrositsch. This place serves cold, typical specialties that are a real treat for the palate. But the true jewel of this Buschenschank is the wine from Vienna. Unique grape varieties and fine wines inspire lovers and connoisseurs. The unusual naming for the in-house wines is particularly memorable - Tisch, Revision, Rakete and many more are memorable.
Only a few know about this Buschenschank, it is hidden, original and a real insider tip!
